Nothing was going to stop me going for a ride this evening, but luckily it was nice, the sun was shining and as I was on my first climb of the evening I was thinking of stripping my top layer at the top.
However, at the top of my first climb it started to spit with a bit of rain. I realised rapidly that there was a huge cloud coming my way and the rain was about to dump on me.
With the rain we have had this week it didn’t take long for the trail to get very slippery indeed, and yours truly didn’t have mud tyres on! I had to push and shortly the back wheel stopped going round altogether. Mud clearance on my bike isn’t great and as you can see it was clogged good and proper.
Within minutes the rain got heavy, seriously heavy and it was time to find shelter. Was not prepared with a water proof of any description and I was soaked through instantly.
Still I got out for a few miles and by the time I got home thankfully the sun came out and I could clean the bike properly in the sun!
Better luck tomorrow…
Busy day today. Started off with a ride to the shops to buy some essential items. It was pretty warm and the ride back, though only about 4 miles was made tougher by a very full 15 litre back pack. This my only way to get a ride in today and it was worth it.
This afternoon was spent doing some basic garden maintenance which included painting the fence and getting the garden furniture out of storage as we seem to be finally out of Winter and can enjoy evening meals on the patio.
And tonight was our last pool match of the season. We have finished higher than last year though we all agree not as high as we could have. We lost the match but I took great pleasure in potting the last ball of our season to win our final frame of the night.
Back to work tomorrow, for a frantic and busy week.
My full sus Giant Trance is going to the shop next week for a very thorough service and check up. Having some new bits fitted and my forks and shock are going in for a service too.
While I have just learnt a few extra tips in terms of bike DIY, I have decided to pay the extra to have it all looked over and to be in the best possible shape ready for my trip to the Alps next month.
Then the new me will take over!
I have been thumbing through some old MBUK issues today and making some notes of the sort of stuff I should be doing, when best and how to do it.
Hopefully throughout the year I will be able to document a few home performed tweaks and fixes as I learn.
I need to get my tools and lubes and greases in order and get a bike stand..
Thus far my maintenance has consisted of cleaning the bike and lubing the chain. It’s time to get a bit more serious about this mountain biking…
Just thought I would share this video from last August filmed by me on an MB Swindon ride near my house.
I have been thinking about making another video and was really pleased with this last year. The Gopro is so versatile and the opening shot in the fridge wasn’t exactly originally but I was pleased with it.
Anyway, bring on the summer!
Having slept in this morning, something of a rarity, I missed both the MB Swindon club ride and some friends locally. So I took the opportunity of being on my own to take my camera and sessions the rock garden for about an hour and a half and made a little video.
It was warm today and it was hard work going up and down the rocks and the banks over and over.
I am just going through the video now and trying to edit it down to about 3 mins.
You’ll have to come back tomorrow to see what it looks like.
