Yes its a flask and yes it keeps your drinks hot or cold, and it does the job really well.

So far I used the Pack Flask from trail 42 on a couple of bike rides and a long car journey, and of course it performs really well. On a long car journey this week I filled the Pack Flask with black coffee and had a few sips here and there as I went along. The coffee was still piping hot an hour in to the journey. Leaving the flask in the car at my destination for an hour and a half and then coming back home. The entire trip was around 5 hours and I can honestly say the coffee was still warm.

The flask is made from double walled stainless steel to form a vacuum between the outside air and the inside drink. For the science fans – a vacuum will not conduct the temperature so it stays hot/cold for hours. A .33L capacity and a simple but effective screw on leak proof lid with a drinking flap complete the specifications.

Imagine getting back to your car after 3 hours of cold, wet, muddy, riding, only to find the trail center cafe is closed (some of them don’t even open in the Winter), or to realise you still have an hour to drive before you can get home and boil the kettle! As mentioned above, I am confident that if you left the flask for up to 5 hours in your car you would still come back to a warming drink of tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Having just received this flask in the Autumn I am yet to experiment with the “Keeping cool properties” but I am sure it will be great. In fact there were a few rides this summer where an ice cold drink would have been a God-send, come back In the summer and I will let you know what I think.

The small but just right proportions mean it can easily be stuffed into your back pack and it has been designed for cyclists as it fits neatly into your bottle cage.

Thanks trail 42, this is going to be a welcome addition to our Winter riding gear.

trail 42

trail 42 is a new British range of ride and lifestyle apparel for men and women. Created by Ruth and Rich Hallett, the ethically-sourced brand is designed by and for mountain bikers and is based on the edge of the Forest of Dean.

“We’re mountain bikers ourselves so when we set out to create the trail 42 range we knew we had to get the detail right,” says co-founder Ruth. “We’ve questioned over 350 mountain bikers, both men and women, during our research and we’ve drawn upon our own experience as riders. The result is trail 42: a range of top quality, ethically-sourced and not too heavily branded gear that is perfect both for a day on the trails and downtime off the bike too.”

Rich originally trained as a precision engineer and then a graphic designer, Ruth’s background is in project management and marketing. Both are avid mountain bikers who enjoy the local trails around the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean, as well as regularly riding in Bristol, Cwmcarn and Afan.
