I failed to make the most of the sun and drier conditions and get out on a bike at the weekend. Not because I was lazy or anything, we were just otherwise occupied in some last minute preparation for our inaugural family camping trip next weekend. We thought it best to check the tent out and with some other activities the weekend just disappeared.
So I decided that I was going to ride the bike as much as possible this week, starting with a bike ride to and from the office today.
The sun was shining as I left home at 7am. I had planned a route that I guessed would take me about an hour and a half – it took me 80 mins – and would give me some climbing, some fun and generally a good work out before arriving at the office.
The route took in the Cherhill Monument, Yatesbury and Roundway and was perfect. I like my job but it was a shame to have to go to work at the end of the ride and not continue or loop back.
Here are some stats from Strava from the morning ride:
Moving Time 1:18:09
Average Speed 15.1km/h
Maximum Speed 47.2km/h
After today’s total failure to ride my bike at all I am going to go for it tomorrow with a commute and the home leg is going to be a long one.
I’m all prepped, bladder in the fridge, back packed with 29er specific spares, Garmin charged, iPod charged and snacks packed.
Alarm set for 6am so I can get up with plenty of time for breakfast and to get to the office.
Tomorrow I will take my Strava Dirt Search to the 250k mark. It’s actually been easier than I thought to do this even with veryblittle riding in theblast 7 days, the commuting once a week has helped significantly as this has contributed around 140k to my total.
Today I decided to commute by bike again. This has been a regular Friday thing for a month now and it really sets me up for the weekend.
Altogether I did around 48k in total today, which also included a short ride to Bertie Maffoons my LBS. I don’t have much else to say other than I love riding in Wiltshire. It’s not exactly mountainous as I have stated before (for those that read this from outside of the UK), but it has some great, very typical and beautiful English countryside.
Anyway, here are some pics I took today… Hope you like them.
Wessex Ridgeway and Silbury Hill
Not a lot to say but today I rode to work on my Rockhopper. 40k round trip and I logged it on Strava, which means I got a total of 8 Personal Records today.
I linked my Strava and Instagram accounts which is fun. So know if I post to Instagram while on a ride that I upload to Strava, Strava pulls in my photos and attaches them to my account. See the picture above where it pulled in my poppy picture from Instagram and linked it to my commute home.
Had some sketchy moments on one of my local descents too. The big wheeled hard tail and slippery chalk don’t mix!
