Operation – Change Operating System

I’m a bit technical – not much just a little bit – and its taken me about a 100 years to finally install a Linux “distro” (see I know the lingo) on to something.

I have an old ATOM N270 netbook running Win XP and frankly its rubbish and probably worthless so I decided to have a go at giving it a boost with Ubuntu.

The were many reasons behind this –

  • I figure being the sort of technical (meh geeky) guy that I am I should have at least one machine with Linux running on it
  • The Netbook wasn’t being used and I hate waste
  • I was curious if it would run better like people say it should
  • I could pick up some cheap netbooks, wipe em and add Linux and my kids could have thier own computers

So here I am blogging and installing Linux… Exciting huh?

I have a dream

I have a dream. Not a big dream just a little one, maybe its a day dream, probably just a pipe dream!

Having had some interest in my words from one offline and one online magazine I have decided its time to set my sights on a bigger project.

We all read magazines and reviews of bikes and biking destinations in magazines and online. Apart from the odd Tripadvisor type reviews by ordinary recreational bikers, the bulk of these are written by lucky journalists, professional cycling enthusiasts generally those guys that are surrounded by bikes and mountain biking 24/7.

Rarely is there a full account of a biking holiday or destination by the average rider like me, and I am certainly an average rider…

So my dream is an article (words and pictures) in a mainstream magazine that is an account, diary, review, or story of a mountain bike holiday in the French Alps taken by half a dozen mountain bikers of various skills and on a variety of different bikes.

I will provide the words, the pictures, the humour, the highs and the lows, but most of all the reality. What a trip like this means to those who don’t live and breath mountain biking and aren’t lucky enough, or more to the point, paid to visit these destinations.

Hopefully the above reason is a good enough one for a magazine article, but here are some more reasons…

I like writing – check out the blog or my ride reports for MB Swindon.
I like to take photos – er check out the blog or my ride reports for MB Swindon.

Finally, I am going to do this anyway. I am going to write about our week in the Alps in June and I am going to blog about it. I am also not looking for any payment for this – just for someone to be interested enough so it gets published… I wouldn’t say no to payment or recognition of some kind, but the fact that you think it’s good enough for your magazine is all I am looking for.

    So what do you say?
If you are interested please get in touch…

    Happy New Year

So off to a slow start after a late night seeing the New Year in. No photos and nothing exciting happened today, ok so we did go for lunch with some friends and I had a delicious giant burrito!

Maybe it’s time to make a note of those all important New Year Resolutions:

Start and maintain a blog – so far so good.
Get out on the bike more.
Make the most of my cameras and get filming and shooting.

That’s it for now, time to put my feet up and watch a film with the kids and have a cheeky sleep on the sofa.

    Happy New Year!

By the way most of my pictures will likely come from my Instagram Feed
